Ethnicity

Helen Hughes and I went to a political meeting at the Northland Polytech today. It was heavily attended by people of Maori-seperatist persuasion. The amount of racist remarks spouted was truly disturbing.
Then I saw PC's post on 'Ethnicity'. It accurately summed up how I have felt about the question of ethnicity for a long time now:

The mentality of tribalism is so powerful, it disengages the brain, makes it easy to tell who is the enemy - it is anyone who isn't part of "your tribe". Good on you both, they are hard electorates to fight in!

Let us remember that tribes take many shapes and sizes least we wake up in one ourselves one day. To want to belong is very human.
